CHIEF JUSTICE PRAYS FOR HONEST LEADERS

Chief Justice Georgina Wood has asked Ghanaians to pray for honest and righteous leaders to assume leadership roles in the country for progress.
"If we have righteous leaders, the country will progress in peace and unity under God’s guidance," she said.
Speaking at the National Sabbath Celebration of the Bible Society of Ghana in Accra yesterday, Mrs Wood said righteous leaders will eschew selfishness, corruption and greed, and instead display tolerance and trustworthiness.
The theme for the celebration, hosted by the SDA Church at Madina, was: "The Bible, Leadership and Unity for nation-building". It formed part of the 2008 Bible Week celebration organised by the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG).
Mrs Wood said it is important for leaders to have a clear vision for the development of the welfare of the people they lead, adding that without a good plan under God’s guidance, the people will be led astray.

"Godly leaders are committed to serve and are concerned about those with needs and not about enriching themselves."
She said being a leader does not connote the first position which attracts service from others; rather a leader is the chief servant of the people.
"If people grasp the concept of leadership which enjoins one to serve, as demonstrated by Jesus Christ, not many will clamour for leadership positions", Mrs Wood stressed.
Corruption, she insisted, must not be part of a good leader, adding that leadership positions come with numerous challenges which can be overcome with God’s guidance.
The Chief Justice noted that the recent positive developments in the country, particularly the discovery of oil, are signs of God’s blessing on the country which must not be taken for granted.
With such developments, she expressed optimism that Ghana will progress provided the resources are managed properly.
"May God continuously give us leaders who will promote godliness, peace, unity and development," she said and urged Christians to pray for the nation’s spiritual and political leaders.
Pastor Samuel Adama Larmie, president of the Ghana Union Conference of the SDA Church in Ghana, in his sermon taken from 2 Timothy 3:16, said "every leader who feeds on the gospel grows in leadership and leads people to success".
Reverend Kofi Owusu, General Secretary of the BSG, which is an inter- denominational group committed to spreading the gospel by making the Bible more available to the public, said God has blessed Ghana because "He has kept the nation together," in the face of challenges.
As part of the celebration, about 400 Bibles were distributed to pupils from Madina SDA and St. Andrews Junior High Schools free of charge.
The provision of the Bibles is under the Society’s One-Million-Bible Project, which is aimed at distributing specially designed Jubilee Bibles to a million pupils across the country this year.
