NDC’s Sly Buried
Sample Image  The body of Mr. Sylvester Kojo Sasu Akakpovie was at the weekend laid to rest in his hometown, Aflao.

People from all walks of life including student lawyers, lawyers and representatives of almost all the political parties in the country attended the funeral ceremony held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Kumasi.
The sorrowful occasion manifested notably on the faces of family members and sympathizers who thronged the funeral grounds on Saturday to pay their last respects to the sorely missed soul.

Tears flowed endlessly down the cheeks of many that filed past the mortal remains of the late Sly Akakpovie before the body was sent to his hometown for interment.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Secretary of NDC; Mr. Doe Tamakloe, Acting Ashanti Regional Secretary of NDC; Alhaji Sani, Deputy Ashanti Regional Chairman of NDC; Ms. Frances Essiam and Bede Zeden, both of the DFP; and Mr Sam Cudjo, NPP Regional Secretary were among the many sympathizers who attended the funeral.

Rev. Sylvester Yoa Olympio officiated the burial service, and entreated the people to surrender their lives to God before it becomes too late.

He said the best way sympathizers could express their love towards their lost ones was to dedicate their lives to God while listening to the sermons at such funerals.

Rev. Olympio stressed that as people could not do anything to save their lives when God decides to take it from them, it is essential to put God first in whatever one does.

The late Sly Akakpovie departed from this world on Wednesday, December12, 2007 at the age of 52.

Seventh child of the late Papa Dzakuna Akakpovie and Mama Yawa Avagla, Sly attended Bishop Herman Secondary School in Kpando (Volta Region) in 1996 and sat for his GCE O and A level examinations in the same school.

He proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in October 1976 and pursued a four-year programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) (Hons) in July 1980.

As the Executive Secretary of the Voltarian Coordinating Council (VCC), Sly actively assisted the able leadership of Torgbuiga Mawufeame Fugah in mobilizing all people from the Volta Region resident in Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions.

In a tribute, NDC constituency secretaries in the Ashanti Region described Sly as a hardworking and committed party member whose name became a household one in the NDC in the late 1990s.

The late Sly Akakpovie was survived by a wife and six children, three boys and three girls.
