Kofi coomson in Npp drama
Sample Image The publisher of The Chronicle newspaper, Nana Kofi Coomson has been arrested by the Police for allegedly falsifying a New Patriotic Party (NPP) letterhead.
He was said to have used the falsified letterhead to solicit $70,000 to pursue his dream of going to Parliament as he launches a fundraising campaign towards annexing the Effia Kwesimintsim seat on the ticket of the ruling party in the December elections.

The incumbent MP is Joe Baidoo-Ansah, Minister of Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiatives.

A source at the Kwesimintsim Police Station near Takoradi told DAILY GUIDE that Coomson allegedly sought to defraud some organizations in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis to the tune of $70,000, using the said letterhead.

He was granted a Police inquiry bail with one surety, as investigations continue into the case.

When daily guide contacted the Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, ASP Reindorf Magnus-Sam, he confirmed the arrest, adding that if found culpable, Nana Coomson would be charged for defrauding by false pretences and subsequently arraigned.

Narrating how the publisher was arrested, the District Commander said at about 9.00pm of Saturday March 1, the Effia-Kwesimintsim constituency Youth Organiser of the NPP, Mohammed Ganiyu lodged a complaint at the Police Station about how he had chanced upon a letterhead of the party bearing Kofi Coomson’s signature, his picture and his wife’s.

Continuing, he said the publisher had addressed the letter to certain companies within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis including Justmore Construction Company, SKYY Group of Companies, Unicorn and Cabmore Companies and solicited funds totaling $70,000 for his campaign to win the Effia-Kwesimintsim parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections.

The complainant, according to the Police Officer, had said Kofi Coomson’s action was in contravention of the party’s constitution, compelling the Police to invite the publisher for questioning.

Kofi Coomson was said to have admitted to the Police that he indeed used the party’s letterhead to solicit funds, but found nothing wrong with the action because according to him, others in the party were engaged in similar acts.

The District Police Commander said he would contact the party hierarchy to establish whether or not the publisher’s action was a breach of NPP’s constitution.

When he was contacted, the Youth Organiser declined to disclose how he had come by the alleged falsified document, adding that by virtue of his position as a youth organizer, he had contacts all over the area.

“Nana Coomson is not an active member of the party in the Effia-Kwesimintsim constituency and what he has done is a criminal offence,” he added.

A source at the NPP headquarters in Accra described The Chronicle publisher’s action as gross misconduct especially when he had not been selected as the party’s candidate.

He intimated however that reporting the matter to the Police was too harsh, stating that the matter should have been resolved at the party level.

The publisher refused to talk to DAILY GUIDE when contacted, preferring however to speak to this reporter at his Valley Beach Hotel in Takoradi.

However when DAILY GUIDE visited the hotel, Coomson was not available, but left a message with the receptionist.
