MR. Kojo Scheck, a Political Scientist in Takoradi has called on President John Agyekum Kufuor to take a critical look at the state of the Ghana Railway Company (GRC) before his term of office ends.
According to him, the present state of the company was a test case for the NPP government to once again prove its competence.

Speaking in an interview with the Media in Takoradi on Thursday, Mr. Scheck indicated that the rejuvenation of the railway system in the country would see the NPP winning the 2008 general elections with effortless ease.

He asserted that the railway workers in Sekondi and Essikado propelled Ghana’s independence and made Kwame Nkrumah to announce his “Positive Action” policy.

He noted that government’s failure to re-shape the once-flourishing company would be a big disappointment to many Ghanaians, particularly those in the Western and Ashanti Regions.

Mr. Scheck, who is also a Freelance Evangelist, further noted that he fully supported the President’s re-appointment of Dr. Richard Anane as the Transportation Minister, adding that the President knew Dr. Anane’s efficiency and capability to handle the transport ministry.

“Even Peter, who denied Jesus three times, did not lose his job because he was the chosen man for the job. So those who are after Dr. Anane’s head should throw the first stone.”

Mr. Scheck advised that the upcoming December 2008 general elections would not be won on a silver platter, so the ruling and opposition parties must plug all leakages and inefficiencies in their camps and strive to make the elections transparent, fair, free and non-violent.

In a related development, Nana Kobina Nketsia VI, Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Council, in a radio interview with Skyy Power in Takoradi, said it was sad that families and dependants of railway workers should suffer due to non-payment of salaries to the workers.

He suggested a public enquiry whereby railway experts could be invited to propose better ways of running our rail transport system and other related issues, and also called on the railway workers to return to work as government considered their grievances.

Nana Nketsia is one paramount chief who has over the years been reminding the ruling government and other politicians of the need to revive the ports and railway system to make businesses boom in the region and Ghana.
