Thousands of people from all walks of life on Saturday joined the campaign train of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Cape Coast in the Central Region, where he told Ghanaians that the era of shit-bombing was over.

The people, who were dressed in NPP colours, amidst drumming and dancing chanted the slogan of the party, indicating their support for Nana Akufo-Addo and the ruling party.

Activities in the municipality came to a standstill especially at the central business district of Kotokoraba, with commuters and vehicles caught in the hold-up for almost two hours.

Those who could not stand the traffic jam had to walk to their various destinations.

Before Nana’s arrival, supporters of the party had gathered on the principal streets of Cape Coast to welcome the man they described as the next president of Ghana.

Addressing the supporters at a mini rally at Chapel Square in Cape Coast, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that the country was enjoying tremendous freedom and development under the leadership of President John Agyekum Kufuor, adding that there was no way Ghanaians would give power to any other political party especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Ghanaians are not ready to go back to the era of shit-bombing, where people were made to swallow their ideas, vision and freedom," he said.

According to him, the NPP government had made democracy enjoyable, in that people could express themselves freely without fear of intimidation.

Nana Akufo-Addo therefore urged Ghanaians who have just attained 18 years and above to register when the voter registration exercise starts so that they could vote massively for NPP in the December general elections.

He emphasised the need for NPP members to close their ranks, asking them to take a cue from the presidential aspirants who had all come together after the December 22 congress to push the agenda of the party towards victory in December.

Nana Akufo-Addo said he would help improve upon the living conditions of the average Ghanaian and that he “would make history in the politics of Ghana when President Kufuor hands over power from one NPP government to another in January 2009”.

On the crude oil discovery, Nana Akufo-Addo said he would put in place a system that would effectively manage the revenue that would accrue from the sale of the oil, pointing out that he would insist on transparency in the oil business so as not to create unnecessary problems for the country.

Nana Akufo-Addo said his government would also go into the production of salt in large quantities, since the demand for it was high on the international market.

A former Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Yaw Osafo Maafo said the NPP was “going for the kill” in December after it had drawn 2-2 with the NDC.

He noted that the NDC and NPP, having been in power for two terms each, were ready for the ‘champion of champions’ elections in December, noting that the performance of NPP for the past eight years outweighs that of the NDC.

The Director of the NPP campaign team, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku noted that Nana Akufo-Addo was the only flag-bearer who could complete the good works of President Kufuor and send the nation to the promised land.

The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur assured Nana Akufo-Addo of the region's commitment towards victory for the party.

He further announced that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, which had generated a lot of controversy, had finally been started.
The Central Regional Chairman of NPP, Danquah Smith called on the supporters to carry out a clean campaign devoid of insults and the use of abusive language.

Earlier, Nana Akufo-Addo had addressed the University of Cape Coast branch of TESCON.

Other speakers included the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, former Minister for Works, Water Resources and Housing; Papa Owusu-Ankomah, former Minister of Education, Science and Sports and MP for Sekondi; Madam Christine Churcher, MP for Cape Coast; DCEs and party executives in the region.

The NPP flag-bearer also paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Oguaa, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II and the Muslim communities in Cape Coast where he was warmly welcomed.

Osabarima Atta congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo on his election as flag-bearer, and called on his supporters to close their ranks and emulate the flag-bearer by not engaging in politics of insults and violence.
