The People’s National Convention (PNC) Chairman for the Wuru-Bonia Electoral Area in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Mr. Solomon Anani Adeyiga Tampoli, has accused the former Energy Minister, Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda, of physically assaulting him. |
He said the sacked minister, who is currently the MP of the constituency, did not only punch him in the face but also organized some thugs in the area who later joined from a nearby bush in beating him up.
Speaking to reporter, the 49-year-old farmer said before punching him, Adda held his shirt and accused him of jubilating over his removal from office.
“I tried to free myself from him, but before I could do anything, more boys came out from the bush to hit me on my testes, stomach and back,” he said.
According to him, he was on his way to attend a meeting at the Tono Club House on Tuesday when the MP crossed him with his vehicle.
“He said I held a party at the Mayaga Hotel here in Navrongo when I heard the President had removed him, and that was why he attacked me. They beat me severely, and I even thank God for saving my life,” he said.
The Tuesday night incident had since been reported at the Navrongo Police Station. A medical report from the War Memorial Government Hospital indicated that Tampoli had ‘Mass bodily pains with physical indication of hurt’.
Asked whether he actually jubilated over the dismissal of Adda, the victim answered in the negative, saying, “I did not appoint him and naturally, I did not remove him. He has his own problems”.
This paper gathered that three witnesses, Kwarasir Aduah, Aloriba Gulu and Aweh Turukubir are expected to write statements on what they saw at the scene.
President John Agyekum Kufuor last week Wednesday nominated Mr. Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjapong, MP for Akim Swedru Constituency and former Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, to replace Adda as Minister for Energy.
No explanation was given for Adda’s removal, but political observers said it had long been expected.
The last time he was spotted at a public function was during the December Congress of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the University of Ghana, Legon.
Police are investigating the assault allegation.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Mr Adda by phone proved futile as the calls went unanswered.
