The Caseley Hayford Hall at the University of Cape Coast popularly called CASFORD, has been closed down indefinitely.
The residents of the hall have been ordered by the university authorities to vacate the hall.

That followed violent clashes between students resident in the hall and those of the Atlantic Hall.

The students are however allowed to continue with their academic work without any hindrance.

The clashes were characterized by stone throwing between residents of the two halls and the alleged kidnapping of one student of
CASFORD who claims he was stripped and assaulted.

In retaliation, the students of CASFORD allegedly went on the rampage destroying university property.

Joy News’ Richard Kwadzo Nyarko reported that the students have packed their belongings out of the hall but are hanging around pending the outcome of an intervention by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the university.

The SRC has appealed to the students to remain calm while efforts are being made to resolve the impasse.

It has expressed worry at the authorities’ failure to involve the SRC in arriving at the decision to close the hall.

Some of the students who spoke to Joy News said the university authorities had not been fair to them.

They argued that the decision to expel them from the hall was harsh because they have barely seven weeks to complete the semester.

Meanwhile, police reinforcement has been called to beef up security and avert any possible violence on campus.

A committee set up to investigate the disturbances is expected to present its report to the authorities by Monday, April 7, 2008.
