Public Cautioned Against Passport 'Contractors' |
|
The Ghana Immigration Service office here has cautioned the public against routing their application for passports through middle men. |
This follows activities of a group described as “goro boys” who have been collecting applicants’ money under the guise of facilitating the issuance of passports.
Speaking to the Times here in an interview, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Service, Emmanuel Lamptey, said all officers have been banned from assisting, sponsoring or preparing passport applications for prospective applicants.
This, he said, implied that anyone who deals with a ‘middle man’ who claims to have ‘connection’ with an officer of the Service, would be doing so at his/her own risk.
He said the public must deal with only officials scheduled to process passports.
“On no account should application forms be released to district officers or applicants after payment had been effected,” he said.
Mr Lamptey said that applicants should present and submit their passport applications in person but stressed that special dispensation would be accorded applicants who are minors and those who have overwhelming proof of ill-health.
The Regional Commander said that anyone who has grievances with any of the officers should report to the command “because I will not condone and connive with any one flouting the regulations of the service”.
