| Eighteen superior police officers have been affected in a major shake-up in the Ghana Police Service, the first since the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, took office and announced measures to enhance policing in the country. |
The postings, contained in a circular dispatched to all members of the management board of the Police Headquarters, Regional, Divisional and Unit Commanders, was signed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh takes over command of the Accra Region with effect from 4th July, 2008.
The new Accra Region Commander used to be Chief Staff Officer at the Police Headquarters and a former Director General, Human Resource Development. He at another time headed the Welfare Unit, including legal and prosecution; and served as Deputy Commander of the UN Force in Darfur, Sudan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, moves to the Ashanti Region with effect from 9th July, 2008.
The Brong Ahafo Region will from 9th July, 2008 have Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Seth Charles Oteng as its commander as he moves from the Ashanti Region.
The Greater Accra Regional Commander, ACP/Mr. Kwasi Appiah Boateng, heads for the Upper East Region as the new Police Chief in that region with effect from 9th July, 2008.
ACP/Ms. Florence Arthur must leave her Accra South West Division to head the Community Policing Unit at the Police Headquarters with effect from 7th July, 2008.
ACP/Mr. Bright Oduro, who was the Regional Crime Officer in the Ashanti Region, now moves to the Greater Accra Region as the Second In Command with effect from 4th July, 2008.
Ordered to move to the CID Headquarters with effect from 4th July, 2008 from the Accra Regional CID is ACP/Mr. Richmond Boi Baboi.
Others affected in the shake-up are ACP/Mrs. Elizabeth Allandu, who has been transferred from the Accra North East (Madina) Division to Akosombo Division in the Eastern Region with effect from 7th July, 2008.
Chief Superintendent/Mr. Abdulai Mohammed leaves the Accra West Division for Ashanti Region (Bekwai) Division with effect from 7th July, 2008.
Chief Superintendent/Mr. Peterkin Gyinae of the Akosombo Division is to move to the Accra West Division (Kaneshie) as Commander with effect from 7th July 2008; while Chief Superintendent/Mrs. Elizabeth Apollonia Dassah, Accra West (Nungua) heads for Accra South West (Dansoman) Division with effect from 7th July 2008 as the Commander.
As Chief Superintendent/Mr. Paul Kwame Ayittey leaves the Madina District to head the Accra North-East Division with effect from 7th July 2008, Chief Superintendent/Mr. Mathew Osew Adjei of Kibi Division in the Eastern Region heads for Ahafo Ano (Tepa) with immediate effect.
Superintendent/Mr. Samuel Kofi Tetteh, Community 2 District, Tema, moves to Ho District with effect from 14th July 2008 as Commander.
Superintendent/Mr. Gabriel Amankwah Dokyi, Kotobabi District moves to head Community 2 District, Tema with effect from 14th July 2008.
Superintendent/Mr. Joseph Adotey Allotey of Accra Central, Nima heads for Bimbila in the Northern Region as Commander.
Whereas Superintendent/Mr. Ernest Aboagye Sarpong of Bimbila moves to Osu to supervise Accra South District with effect from 14th July 2008, DSP/Mr. Jonathan Akuettey Lamptey of Accra South District goes to command the Kotobabi District with effect from 14th July 2008.
In another development, the Police Administration has announced that the police would mount an exercise to inspect vehicles’ documents and other important materials like fire extinguishers.
Defaulters, the announcement added, would be dealt with according to law.
During his maiden intercourse with the top hierarchy of the Police Service at the Police Headquarters, Dr. Addo-Kufuor solicited the support of the Service personnel to stem the tide of drug trafficking and armed robbery in the country.
The shake-up and the intensified night patrols are seen as part of new measures to bring sanity into the country.
