We Have Not Received Sinare’s Resignation — NDC |
| The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it is not aware of the resignation of the party’s second National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Said Sinare, from the party. |
Reacting to news of Alhaji Sinare’s resignation, Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the party told the Daily Graphic in a telephone conversation that until the party received an official resignation letter from Alhaji Sinare, it would be treated as speculation. He said although the party had heard of the resignation, it had to be concretely confirmed by Alhaji Sinare adding that the party would use “its internal mechanisms to resolve any individual problems should he confirm the stand”.
Alhaji Sinare did not give any reasons for his resignation last Monday when he confirmed to an Accra based FM station that “I have resigned and I’m not going to talk about it”.
He said those who wished to know why he had resigned should ask Mr. Ato Ahwoi, another leading member of the party. But Mr Ahwoi, in a reaction, said he had no idea what Alhaji Sinare was talking about.
Sources close to Alhaji Sinare told the Daily Graphic that it appeared he was hurt by the party but they would not go further.
They pointed out that his resignation at such a crucial time the party was going into a major election attested to the degree of hurt.
It would be recalled that Alhaji Sinare also won the NDC primaries in 1999 in the Ayawaso Central Constituency but was not given the nod. He won a parliamentary seat in 1992 but lost it to the New Patriotic Party in 1996.
According to reports, Alhaji Sinare had said he was not going to join any other political party because he was not a stomach politician.
As one of the party’s pillars, especially in the Zongo communities, his resignation, if it should stand, would be a significant loss to the NDC.
The First Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, said everything possible must be done to bring him back to the party’s fold.
He said “Alhaji is a big brother and so if he is hurt, the proper thing to do is give him a fair hearing”.
He said he did not have a clue as to what the reason for his resignation could be. The resignation, he said, could have a psychological impact on the party and its chances.
Frantic efforts to reach Alhaji Sinare yesterday yielded no positive results.
Mr Sinare was not in his Labone residence when the Daily Graphic called, but a lady in the house said he had travelled outside Accra. |
